Description

Cambridge is a diverse and welcoming city, with residents from many different backgrounds and cultures. We want to be an organisation that reflects the modernity of our city, reaches all sections of our communities, and protects its most vulnerable.

This is an exciting time to join us as we have recently undertaken the first phase of Our Cambridge – the council transformation programme. We are reshaping our services and integrating activities around the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors, following the creation of a new leadership structure and new operational groups.

You will be leading a new group which brings together existing teams focused on communities, on housing, and on environmental health.

We are looking for a leader that is outcome-driven, an empathetic collaborator who can influence and inspire others, manage complex stakeholder engagement, and make difficult decisions. You will create high-performing teams, promote a flexible and creative work culture, and work closely with our partners to develop new ways of working and more effective support systems in Cambridge. The role also includes providing professional guidance, promoting good governance and modelling our leadership behaviours.

As our Director of Communities, you will lead the transformation of the Communities Group, building new ways of operating, fostering and promoting an organisational culture where employees are engaged, feel valued, empowered to challenge, and have the autonomy to work flexibly, be creative and take managed risks.

If you have the experience and skills we are looking for, we encourage you to apply.
